Promoting Open Societies

Principled, effective U.S. leadership can play an important role in promoting open society values and respect for human rights internationally.

The Open Society Policy Center promotes U.S. policies that support open and just democracies and human rights abroad and encourages the U.S. government to actively participate in multilateral institutions, such as the United Nations and the Community of Democracies.  OSPC works to encourage the United States to ratify key human rights treaties.

In addition, OSPC supports local efforts in foreign countries to change repressive legislation, such as laws that discriminate against minorities or restrict the activities of non-governmental organizations.  OSPC supports groups and individuals working to promote right to information laws, robust electoral laws, and constitutions that protect fundamental rights.
