Government Transparency Must Be Preserved
OSPC calls on Congressional leaders to ensure government accountability by preserving funding levels of transparency programs.

In a letter to Senate and House of Representatives leadership, the Open Society Policy Center and others expressed concern over proposed budget reductions for key government transparency programs. The groups wrote that “these proposed cuts would put the American people back in the dark.”

An open and accountable government is a prerequisite for democracy. E-government initiatives, such as Data.gov, USASpending.gov, and the IT Dashboard, help the government operate more effectively and efficiently, thereby saving taxpayer money and aiding oversight.
